Seamless Signage Solutions for a Vibrant New Fishtown Development

1120 Franford Ave

Bringing a new development to life requires more than just bricks and mortar; it demands thoughtful design and execution to create spaces that are functional, compliant, and visually captivating. At 1120 Frankford Ave, Sunrise Signs collaborated closely with the developer, architect, and general contractor to deliver a comprehensive multifamily signage solution that embodies the building's unique character while ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.

The project, located in the vibrant Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, is a six-story, 150-unit mixed-use development known as The Frankford. Designed with a Neo-Industrial aesthetic, the building features a refined façade of rusticated red brick, paneled loft-style windows, and gray metal accents, paying homage to the area’s storied industrial heritage. From residential living spaces to ground-level retail, the development seamlessly blends into its culturally rich surroundings while offering modern amenities to its residents.

Signage Solutions That Tell a Story

Sunrise Signs' contribution to The Frankford started with a deep understanding of the project’s vision. Working alongside the developer and architect, we provided complete multifamily signage services – bringing their vision to life. The project included a range of custom ADA-compliant signage that enhanced the property’s functionality and elevated the overall experience for residents and visitors alike. Our team took great care to ensure every detail was thoughtfully designed to blend in with the building’s aesthetic.

A Comprehensive Signage Package

The signage package for 1120 Frankford Ave was comprehensive, addressing every need for wayfinding, safety, and aesthetics:

  • Entrance Lobby Sign: To create an inviting first impression, we designed, fabricated, and installed a brass dimensional letter sign in the entrance lobby. This feature added a touch of elegance while reflecting the building's industrial design elements.

  • Unit ID Signs, Evacuation Maps, and Wayfinding Signs: These custom ADA signs were designed to provide clear, accessible information throughout the building. Fabricated with two layers of acrylic and finished with anodized bronze aluminum laminate, the signs featured second surface lettering, pictograms, and ADA-compliant braille. Each element was created with precision to ensure easy navigation and enhance tenant experience.

  • Fire Exit and Amenity Signage: Safety is of utmost importance in any multifamily housing project. We ensured that fire exit signs were strategically placed to facilitate a swift exit during emergencies. The amenity signage was crafted to highlight shared spaces such as the rooftop deck, bike storage, and dog run, making it easy for residents to locate and enjoy the building’s amenities.

Coordinated Mobilization for Seamless Installation

Executing a signage project of this scale involves careful planning and coordination. To minimize disruption and ensure all milestones were met, Sunrise Signs worked closely with the general contractor to schedule multiple mobilizations for installation. This approach allowed us to remain flexible, respond to on-site needs, and keep the overall construction timeline on track.

A Thoughtful Contribution to Fishtown

The Frankford aims to enrich the Fishtown neighborhood with its unique architecture, vibrant street-level retail, and welcoming residential atmosphere. Sunrise Signs is proud to have played a role in making this project a reality by ensuring the signage not only met code compliance but also contributed to the overall aesthetic and utility of the space. Each sign tells a story—of thoughtful design, community integration, and the seamless functionality needed in a modern urban setting.

This project showcases our commitment to working alongside developers and contractors to bring their vision to life, with high-quality, compliant, and visually compelling signage solutions.
